U S Navy Flag set to grow War Front’s Australasian impact

24.09.20

High-class G1 July Cup winner U S Navy Flag (USA) is back for his second season at Valachi Downs in 2020, ready to add to the growing Australasian impact of his sire War Front (USA).

War Front is a champion sire in his own right, with almost 100 individual stakes winners to his name worldwide including more than 20 at the elite level.

He has enjoyed success at the elite level in Australia with his well-performed son Homesman (USA), while another son, Spirit of Valor (USA), placed in the Group 1 Manikato Stakes and Group 2 Schillaci Stakes.

But it was as a sire of sires that War Front made headlines in this part of the world during the 2019-20 season.
His son Declaration of War (USA) became a superstar of the Melbourne spring carnival. Within the space of just four days, he sired the winners of two of the biggest prizes on the Australian racing calendar.

War Front

Warning (Aus) captured the Group 1 Victoria Derby on the opening day of Flemington’s famous carnival, then Vow and Declare (Aus) defeated a stellar cast of overseas invaders in the Melbourne Cup on the first Tuesday in November.

Earlier in the year, Declaration of War claimed further Group 1 spoils when his impressive daughter Winning Ways (Aus) captured the Queensland Oaks.

Overall, Declaration of War has sired 60 winners from 100 runners in Australia and New Zealand, with six individual black-type winners. His other stakes stars in this part of the world include:

• Hong Kong’s Group 2 Sprint Cup winner Voyage Warrior (Aus)
• Group 3 Cambridge Breeders’ Stakes winner Vigor Winner (Aus)
• Group 3 Chairman’s Stakes hero Declarationofheart (Aus)
• Listed Southland Guineas winner Weaponry (NZ)

U S Navy Flag is one of just three sons of War Front at stud in New Zealand this year, alongside Sweet Orange (USA) and War Decree (USA). There are also only three in Australia – Fleet Review (USA), Omaha Beach (USA) and The Brothers War (USA). Declaration of War now stands in Japan for a service fee of ¥2,300,000 ($30,000).

Along with Ten Sovereigns (Ire), U S Navy Flag is one of two July Cup winners on the Valachi Downs stallion roster.

U S Navy Flag will stand for a service fee of $17,500 + GST during the 2020 breeding season, with his first southern hemisphere foals being born this spring and receiving rave reviews from local breeders.
